Yaping Jiang

“Seeing the seeds of art germinating in the hearts of the children, growing, flowering and fruiting day by day, and seeing how art is changing the human life, I feel very much rewarded but even more a sense of responsibility.”

Yaping Jiang (Principal) Yaping graduated in 1982 from Sichuan Institute of Fine Arts in China, and once taught at Southwestern-China Normal University’s Department of Fine Arts.


She later obtained a diploma of art education at RMIT in Australia and for many years taught Chinese calligraphy and arts at University of Melbourne’s faculty of Chinese. Yaping created New Star Art School nearly 20 years ago, and together with the growth of the school throughout these years has witnessed the fruit of her hard work – the development of numerous young talents.

John McCallum

”I love the natural creativity in young children and have a passionate desire to encourage the development of their drawing skills whilst leading them to the threshold of their imagination.”

John McCallum has had nearly 40 years’ experience learning art, and has been the student of many famous Australian artists, among whom Alan Martin (the academy school), Ron Reynolds (the semi-abstract school) and Yvonne Audette (drawing/painting from life).


John has successfully held personal art exhibitions and his works are widely found in private collections. In New Star Art John has already had a group of little fans. His combination of story telling and learning drawing is rather popular among the kids.


Vera

"I really enjoyed teaching children, the most exciting thing is to see the children burst into creative sparks and their smiles of achievement!"

Vera graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2015, majoring in Decoration Art Design. In China she has had more than two years’ experience in children’s art education. Since coming to Australia in 2016, she has been teaching and managing at New Star Art School.


Vera works very responsibly and is always nice to students. She is well liked by both students and parents.

Sha

“In my eye, drawing and painting is an artistic means to the realisation of mental images of landscapes and objects on different materials via different methods. As a teacher of art, I hope to lead the children in the development of their brain power, using different approaches and trying new materials, so that they can create more beautiful and more imaginative works.”

Sha has studied children’s art, acrylic painting, drawing, oil painting, handicraft, pottery art, etc. She graduated in 2012 from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ School of New Media Arts and Designs, majoring in illustration, and obtained a bachelor’s degree of arts.


Her works won many awards during her time at the university. Sha is always able to give the children a feeling of coolness.


Krystal

“I like art, like children and like education, and there’s no job that suites me better than children’s art education!”

Krystal graduated with honors from Sichuan Normal University in 2014, majoring in digital media arts and was guaranteed a postgraduate place in the same year. In China she has had more than two years’ experience in children’s art education.


Krystal is currently studying towards a master’s degree of education at Deakin University. Krystal works tirelessly and has achieved success in her teaching. Passion is the best motivation.


Sukyi Chin

“Art to me is quite subjective, there is no right and wrong. I find painting and drawing very relaxing and enjoyable. As a teacher, I like to leave some space for my students’ own creativity and to build up their confidence.”

Sukyi Chin is originally from Malaysia and speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, English and Bahasa Malaysian. She studied Professional Graphic Design at Malaysia Institute of Art and graduated in 2002 with a diploma of Arts.


She has spent most of her career working in design, advertising and art teaching. Sukyi enjoys working with children and focuses on ensuring that they not only become better artists but enjoy having fun too.


Wenli

“I believe building a secure and reciprocal relationship with children is the base for learning and exploration. I want my students to express themselves freely in the form of art in my class.”

Wenli has great passion for art and started learning art when she was 11. Since she came to Australia, she has been studying mixed media from Mr Manfred Horn in Malvern Artists Society.


Wenli enjoys being around with children and has one-year experience in doing story telling class in China. Now she is doing her master degree in Teaching in Early Years and Primary in Monash University.


Tammy

“The most rewarding aspect of teaching is seeing the build-up of self-esteem and confidence in my students. When a student finally discovers their potential, there is no other experience that compares to that level of fulfilment.”

Tammy graduated from Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT University in 20 19. For seven years, she was a student at New Star Art School, learning art under the guidance of Yaping Jiang. 


Tammy’s artworks have been exhibited in various exhibitions including Collins Place Summer Salon 2018 and Top Arts 2017. Tammy’s love for children, personalities and drawing make art teaching a wonderful experience.


Yau-Onn Chong

“While it’s important to educate students the necessity to survive in the world, however I feel that it is much more important that we focus on nurturing them. To see and build up their fullest potential and become strong capable individuals, creating meaningful values in their own lives and in society.”

Yau-Onn is a kind and passionate art teacher of New Star Art School. He was a former student of New Star Art School and a recent graduate from RMIT University with a Bachelor’s Degree In Design. He is now eager to use all of his knowledge to share it among with his wonderful students to the best of his ability. 




Yau-Onn has great practical skills in both traditional and contemporary art. He especially enjoys using water colour, ink brush and digital mediums/ digital art to create stunning art works.

Katherine

Katherine Addison comes from a family of artists and has always had a strong interest in art and design. She holds a Diploma qualification of Early Childhood Education along with an Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design.


Katherine completed all her education in Melbourne and believes in the benefits of creative learning for young children.

Kristy

“There is no shortage of beauty in life. As long as you have a pair of eyes that are good at discovering beauty, beauty in life is everywhere. I am willing to accompany the children to grow slowly on the artistic road of discovering beauty, feeling beauty, and creating beauty.”

Kristy Tang graduated from Shanghai Normal University in 2000. He studied glyph drawing with Chen Xiaochen. She taught in Shanghai Anshun Road Primary School and immigrated to Australia.


Determined to go all the way to the "King of Children".

Lily

"I believe that art will move children, love and create!"

Lily Zhang has loved painting and art since she was a child, graduated from Xi'an International Studies University. While studying in Saga, Japan, she studied handmade art making and Japanese flower arranging. While working at New Star Art School, he has been studying painting with Yaping and has been teaching children's manual lessons for a long time. Will take the initiative to communicate with children, focusing on training children's creativity and imagination.

Ting

“Interest is the best teacher. As a teacher, I hope to lead students to explore in the world of imagination and truly transform art into a way of self-expression through their individual brush strokes.”

Ting graduated from RMIT University in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree of Fine Art, she has systematically studied expanded studio art, which included painting, drawing, watercolor and installation.


She loves art and loves children. She has experience in leading young students from a zero base and likes to get along with students as friends. In her creativity teaching, she makes a variety of lessons from a child’s perspective to arouse their interest.

Linda

"Art is a window for children to discover, explore and understand the world. When countless quirky souls and ideas come together, each child is an artist."

Linda has a passion for art since she was a child, and has tried many art media. Now studying at RMIT (Melbourne Royal Institute of Technology) pure art oil painting department. Not only oil painting, but also studied photography and ceramics production during his studies. Keeping close communication with contemporary art can bring extensive and interesting new inspiration to children.

Robin

"Everyone is a potential artist. We have different styles, and different perspectives, just like everyone has different fingerprints. The key point is how to effectively express it in real life."

Robin completed product design and industrial design at RMIT University. He has received elite drawing training in both South Korea and Melbourne with experience managing design projects for various businesses. Robin has been developing pure drawings and artworks with critical, creative ideas identifying his speciality.

Amber

"For me art is:Don't bend; don't water it down; don't try to make it logical; Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly. This is the natural gift to a child but hardly preserves."

Amber currently studying in RMIT and majoring in architectural desgin. 

developed skills in animation production and 3d modeling. Meanwhile, she has tried a variety of art elements in her productions. She loves both traditional classic arts and modern 3D visual arts. She believed that based on the combination of “modern” and “traditional” arts, it can bring massive inspiration to children’s creativity and breaking the intrinsic aesthetic views into a new realm.
